Thanks for the comment, SAChopMaster! I think this LP record "Helen Merrill" is one of the jazz albums until now which is popular a lot in Japan. Otaku2^^

I haphazardly found the Japanese import CD of this album 10 years ago at a rummage sale. She's up there with Ella, Nina, and all the greats. One of my very favorites.

I've heard a few songs that she recorded. What a great singer. What a great addition to this website. Thanks.

You're welcome, caponsacchi! I agree to your opinion about Jimmy Jones. He was a excellent pianist as accompanist of some singers. Otaku2^^

Thanks. Clifford recorded 3 albums with female singers, Sarah and Dinah being the other 2. I'd never heard this one. Merrill is even more understated than Peggy Lee or Billie Holiday. The pianist, Jimmy Jones, is the right accompanist for her, though he also toured with Sarah and is perfect on recordings with Sonny Stitt, never getting in anyone's way. Later he was Nancy Wilson's arranger-accompanist.

Absolutely terrific, what a combo, each one wonderful on their very own. Good stuff never dies! I loved them both. wish I could have this on CD.
