I love this song, can't stand the annoying tween applause. Great song though.

this IS the definitive version
the whole world ripped it off, fuckers. this is VERY VERY VERY good but for me, only second best. the best version of this for me will always be Sid Vicious' one. but this is very close!
Well done! beautiful stuff! thanks for the upload!!!!!

la voix d'un oiseau. Il faut le mettre avec les grands aristes.

I agree, this is shocking. But I am the one that is a fan of the Gipsy Kings, who sing Frank Sinatra´s version, created by Paul Anka, who fucking stole it from the poor bugger! This is shocking.

I think it depends on which version you heard first . For me it was English, and the French version sounds less powerful. Maybe the lyrics add to my impression: the French seems to be about a man who is in a dead relationship. The English is about self identity, personal loss, persistence, strength, and wisdom, ideas which seem more powerful than those in the French version. Plus Frank Sinatra's voice sounds more resonant, Claude François' sounds thinner, as if he's yelling or has a cold.

Personnellement, je n'aime pas du tout Piaf. Mais j'ai parlé de ChanteuR !;)
C'est vrai que Piaf était une grande Dame.
