lets get this straight - i didnt start the argument but i will try to finish it because its a shame people arent just talking about the fray team, band, army, group = collective nouns. In the US, english was simplified many years ago, spellings and grammer(ie: color - no 'u') Thus, in the UK - a collective noun like band or team =mainly plural, but this changes in a pretty complex way to singular depending on context. less complex US form - a collective noun is regarded as a singular unit

i love the fray. i saw them in concert. good song, but pan on some of the pictures and such it makes the video more intersting

Bands are not singular, but band is singular. The band The Fray is cool, but the bands Oasis and The Fray are cool. Oh by the way teaching English in a Japanese university (your profile states you live in Japan) doesn't mean you have your grammar perfect =). Regardless of that, if you were from England or America it still wouldn't necessarily mean that you have perfect knowledge of grammar, as it doesn't generally occur in exams in university, only school.
