You're mistaken mate. It was fought on the Nationalist side by everyone from Christian democratic centrists to Fascists, to democratic monarchists, and pure monarchists. On the Republican side it Anarchists, Stalinists (statists), Trotskyites, and yes some democrats too--both sides did.

well, that's the war justification by fascists... they had to stop socialism. but in the republican group there were all the democratic parties, not just socialists, so the war was between democrats and fascists.

wasn't the Spanish civil war fought between nationalists and socialists? if so then the reason other European democracies did not help is because of a fear of socialism.
