Radiohead, most prominently, released their last album"In Rainbows" as a pay-what-you like download. At some levels of payment receive physical product (20$ for vinyl, 60$ for special edition boxed set or something) Anyway, I completely agree; the artist ought reap the reward of their ability and labor.
I'd gladly throw down 15 greenbacks to support legitimate poetry and subvert corporate control of marginalized art.
