Back on topic the anti disco backlash was a mostly U.S. phenomenon. There was a backlash in the U.K. but nothing like in the U.S. Really nothing of substance elsewhere. From what I understand the Bee Gees had substantial European chart success in the 1980's

Yes I was referring to the U.S. as this discussion is about a U.S. event and this thread seemed to be about U.S issues. For the record punk/new wave music regularly topped British (as well as many other countries) charts from late 1976 on. The Clash's "London Calling" album was regulary played not only only on WPIX-FM but other NYC AOR stations as well. From what I remenber B-B2's were not as regularly played as other groups mentioned (until 1989)

Oh, and lets not forget the Police. There's was a significant New Wave success.

You're referring to the U.S.; in the UK punk was far more successful. Modest success yes, with the exception of Blondie and the Cars (the latter of which are basically same genre as Cheap Trick, a band that similarly did well on the charts). The Clash album you are referring to, London Calling, wasn't as big in its time as its reputation suggests. It did go gold. 1982's Combat Rock was their big commercial breakthrough. Newman was a one hit wonder. Talking Heads, B52s, and Elvis C also did well.

It's also worth noting that in 1980 most "people had other things on their mind, such as a bad economy, rapid inflation, and a Cold War resurgence. And how is that different from today??

We don't need a "Rap Demolition Night." We need a "Soulja Boy (and every other fag like him) Demolition Night."

Fucking bastards who helped demolish DISCO culture. They come from hell, and they are black and mad. Long live DISCO, and long live SOUL. These are transcendentals.
