you obviously haven't heard much of his solo work. try Metal Fatigue, Atavachron, Sand. His playing improved with each album, until some time in the late 80's when he reached God-level. Peace.

Karl Jenkins was in the band at this point, if I'm not mistaken. I don't see him anywhere in this video.
