And Hurt wasn't even his own song. NIN didn't do it for me the way Cash did. Everyone's opinion is different, though. I respect the fact that people like Screamo, but I can't say that it would ever beat out the Classics.

I'm a teenager, and I enjoy this 50's - 80's music WAY MORE than I do today's rock 'n' roll. Buddy Holly; Beatles; Rolling Stones; Doors; Who; Dylan; Dire Straits will always beat out Screamo in my mind. I think the big thing that makes Screamo unsuccessful compared to Classic Rock is the fact that it doesn't make you feel good. Sure, not every Beatles song was upbeat, but they at least made you feel touched at the end in some shape or manor. Johnny Cash did such with Hurt.
