I was Blessed with great parents. Until I heard Dan's song I actually thought I had a monopoly on great parents. I try to be a great Dad to my Daughter . I ask everyone to listen and love your children in honor of this great song !

I went to school with Dan, and I saw hin sing in the first days at the Red Herring at the Unitarian Church at the UofI. What a talent. I'm the same age and it hurt to hear of his passing. We'll miss his skills and his voice.

its just such a beautiful song i could cry!
dan's songs make me just listen with all my attention and make me hang on to every word breathlessly! :)
its a shame none of my friends appreciate old songs so much for GENTLE music, all they want is heavy metal rock! sigh well... people will be people!

This is gonna sound really corny but this song was playing on the radio on the drive home from the hospital the night my grandfather died and it made me feel slightly better.

I love Dan as a story teller and a genuine creative spirit. I saw him live in 1985, I think it was, in Columbus, Ohio. I have loved all of his music. Only now did I realize that he passed away. So very sad news. Life is fleeting. Young people, be sure to love, be kind, seek Truth and God. Be joyful, and find goodness. We will miss you, Dan, until we see you on the other side.

The way Fogelberg told the story is really touching and the song peacefully reflects that story like a painted canvas.

It was actually filmed at the Fox Theatre in St Louis, Missouri on the 25th June 1991. This footage (and the rest of the concert) was released on the "Greetings From The West" VHS Video and subsequent DVD.

"Papa, I don't think I said "I love you" near enough" and yet, this is the best song for a grieving son. I never paid much attention to the lyrics of the song until my father passed away. |
