Still the gold standard for me as to the pantheon of tenors.
Bjoerling's high notes were caressed with a thrilling, plaintive cry that sends shivers up my spine and no other voice can match it! Even Pavarotti wanted to be compared to him. Bjoerling's entire body was a singing machine and he just stood there and rolled out these breathtaking legatos of sound. All you matinee idol tenors with the sculpted pecs and abs cavorting on stage today take note
of THIS man. Opera is a singing medium!

Haha very good observation. Jussi has this pure child like quality about him that no others have.

You sometimes saw Pavarotti lift both shoulders and go on tiptoes when hitting C :)

Yes he sings it as he should not belting as many do. This is an example of great singing and the aria calls for this plus the high notes he had where among the greatest of them all. Someone mentioned Lanza, Mario's favotite singer in his own time was Jussi Bjorling who he looked up too and respected but Mario brought us opera in movies mostly and I thank him for that contribution it turned me on to opera with his natural beautiful voice so now I like many greats.

The sound is flowing so effortlessly. There is a simple and almost naive approach. No strange facial expressions. No sobs, no exaggerations. Just music - pure music.

Callas could of used her voice better herself.
