This song always makes me sad because of what it reminds me of. It came out three weeks before I lost my first love, father of my daughter...I was 7.5 months pregnant with her...he passed away in the middle of the night so the line "cast me gently into morning for the night has been unkind" has very true meaning for me. I used this song at his funeral in 2003.
This song is now a beautiful reminder of what I had and have been fortunate enough to find again and just how fragile life is.

Sarah has written a lot of amazing songs...but IMO this is one of the most beautiful songs she's written.

Sarah is the only female who inspired me to become a songwriter

When i first heard it, i thought it might be Sarah Mclachlan-she sings these deep, soul piercing ballads that make you believe in the good things of this earth.
Thank you lord for her music...

I will sing this in church as a solo. It is so spiritual. Thank you, Sarah.

The first time I heard this song, it was when I was watching the movie "The Brave One". I was so deeply moved, it had me in tears. This song is truly a beautiful tune, and will remain one for years to come. Sarah's voice is just right for this type of song and I would ask for no other person to sing it. It's her song alone and no one else will be able to put as much emotion into it as she has been able to.
