I do, living in England, it means I can watch the rugby and my Welsh has improved immeasurably.

I work for S4C and understand Welsh but don't speak it too well. Some people in my department speak no Welsh at all. I would say about 85% of the jobs within the company require applicants to be fluent.

Not all S4C employees speak Welsh (and they indirectly employ a large number of non-Welsh speakers in the television industry).
A language can be a necessary qualification like any other that an employer may stipulate (degree in the appropriate field or certain skills learnt either through experience or courses taken).
Who watches S4C? Welsh speakers perhaps?

There must be some discrimination law against that, I'm sure.
Who actually watches S4C these days now that most people have got digital and can watch Channel 4 instead?

As I understand it no one can apply for a job at S4C unless they speak fluent Welsh; even the housekeepers aren't exempt from the requirement and speaking the language is greatly encouraged at all levels.

I love this! It reminds me of when I should have been studying for my A levels. The long gaps inbetween s4C programmes!
