feminist protests were misplaced because the band were patently not misogynists - the last track on the LP is one of the most heart-wrenching pieces of feminine viewpoint song-writing i've ever heard. the point with just about all Albini's work is it is observational, more like a kind of audio journalism. i'd be more impressed if feminists had chosen to protest at the massive gulf between male and female wages. these days i think people should picket The Feeling for crimes against music.

Who gives a shit about the name if the music kicks ass? I mean come on, there are a lot more bands out there with more offensive names than Rapeman.

is it not apparent to anyone the band may be called this in order to spark exactly the sort of pseudointelectual argument that seems to be raging on this page at the moment? Go Rapeman, I'm thinking of calling my next band Rapethefoetusinutero... Should turn a few heads.

Acknowledgment for certain people, such as women, oftentimes, isn't gained simply by creating things. And it's better to try to help repair the system along with protecting oneself with self-defense or even a gun. Basically attacking the problem on multiple levels. Feminazi is a safe distance term, used by those who are offended in their own way, those who can't see life from a perspective other than their own, most likely.

ctd. The aforementioned may not be to blame, but things like that certainly aren't making anything better. My first post was probably more revealing because the person I was talking to seemed like less of a shit-starter. The intent of bands is free to be questioned, as are all creative endeavors. And Rapeman didn't break up because of their name, actually.

Yeah, the Princess Bride bit fails...explaining permissibility briefly is to say that I don't think that things such as naming your band Rapeman or making rape jokes causes people to commit rape; it's a much more complicated issue than that, but situations where there's no opposition creates a more comfortable environment in which to engage in said behavior. Thus, a sense of permissibility in certain instances.

. . . If you want acknowledgement, go create something yourself. If you want personal safety, buy a handgun and train with it. Feminazi is an appropriately dismissive term for the picketers, and you if you share the same views.

You keep using that word . . . permissibility. I do not think it means what you think it means. Show me a convicted rapist who would have been a model citizen, had the band been named "Fluffy Pink Bunnies", and I'll accept picketing's merit. Otherwise, your first post was more revealing . . . you don't "eke out" either personal safety or acknowledgement by trying to tear down someone else's creative work . . .
