I think Ozzy's vocals deteriorated over time as excessive drinking and drug use were thrown into the mix. In these early days, days, though, i think his vocals are quite exceptional.

Black Sabbath is first and true heavy metal bend that put standards for todays metal bends !!! Iommi's rifs are begining of totaly new chapter in music and they lyrics are something new....there wasn't so black or dark lyrics before.... and you can't put Zeppelins and Sabbath in one basket couse they are totaly diffrent!! still ozzy is one of best singers and he literaly becomse living legende.... he have voice for stuff like this and sure for he solo carrire!!! Every thing was born with Sabbath

I mean this: 1970,Ozzy wants to rip like its 1980 or 1990 he wants to crank the punk out hard and loud. Screw melody. Chop-chop-chop guitar slashing out three chords. He wants to drive hard, loud, primal - then comes this guitar solo that sounds like a cheesy Led Zep thing. Ozzy in 1970 was driving at what punk would become 5-10 years later but they had to throw in these guitar solos de rigeur. And in this vid you can see it in his face, in his energy he wants to leave that stuff behind.
