Yes, there were strings visible, but not all the time. In fact, there are hardly any times you can see them. I have the series on DVD. It's a great show and my favourite Supermarionation series.

That's also the reason why the characters in "Thunderbirds" had ingenious ways of getting into their vehicles. Lots of moving sidewalks, elevators, chutes, slides and tubes. Anything so they wouldn't have to show the puppets walking!

Maybe you can't see them in this low-quality video, but when I saw these shows back in the 1960s, the puppet strings were definitely visible in some shots. |
