"was Leadbelly a blues singer or a country singer ?" I say neither, Country and Blues as we now know it didn't really exist that far back. Leadbelly was a Folk singer.

SHAME , SHAME ....... this man is the father of country music show some respect . And this debate is tired, black or white back in the day it was all folk music . The truth is both cultures had a profound influence on each other musically , to make generalizations such as white artists ripped off black artists is uninformed . If you don't believe me ask yourself this : was Leadbelly a blues singer or a country singer ?

whateverfukinever, you have made the greatest comments I've ever seen on a youtube music video, perfect. Brimania723 is a textbook example of a liberal, reverse racist (I'm not racist, I love blacks, but I'm going to make sweeping and fact less generalizations about them. Oh and whites are all evil with no culture or influence). Great to see some common sense on the internet.

well later on he had a lot of blues influence, but yeah earlie jimmie is just appalachian folk stuff

Well i agree with the fact that no music came from africa except a couple of primal screams and maybe a couple drums. And you have corrected me, but i think i learned that whites made it possible for blacks to pick up the intstruments that made the music popular.

"But in all respect,Blacks have an inner rythym, a non-textbook style of learning music by the ear, not by books or sheets." Sounds like you are stereotyping an entire race of people to me... ; ) All Black people are the same now? They all "just got that natural rhythm?" That's a generalization and a stereotype. Next you're going to say all Black people like fried chicken and watermelon too LOL! : )

PS- and..there is no "Black" influence on this man here Jimmie Rodgers. He didn't copy any Black man's music,he's all original. No one can prove that he learned anything from some black musical "Gods". Did he ever say so himself? Any proof of that whatsoever? Oh and one more question..Music has a race??? Weird, I thought it was just..you know..music..and Jimmie's White so it's White music. ;)

What about "White" influence? Why doesn't anyone ever talk about that?;)Yes,only Black people make and influence music..riight.There is no genre of American music that doesn't have a White influence. Not Jazz,Blues or anything else. There is no music from Africa that's any good ; )

You take things way too seriously, now i play music and have a deep respect for all the music i play. But in all respect,Blacks have an inner rythym, a non-textbook style of learning music by the ear, not by books or sheets. So this enables the sounds of virtuoso's like Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder and tons more. Im trying to get at how music is here now because of blacks and how many artists or bands like The Who And the Beatles wouldnt have been the same without black influence

LOL...You know where the Black Blues comes from? From White Folk music,Old Time music, Hillbilly music,etc... They started out by immitating the White folks. They came off the plantation in 1866 and what did they see but a bunch of White folks sitting around playing guitar and fiddle and they copied them. That's how Blues started. Black people create all music(roll eyes) how ignorant. Black people also learned Gospel from Whites,it came from Christian hymns that date back to medievel Europe.
