1 good thing about thames losing in 1992 is that its better remembered than any other company on itv! It might not have been if it won! But when you look at the franchise round it should have won because carlton should of easily have failed the quality threshold!

Thames Television (now Talkback Thames) is 40 this week. Such a pity they (and all the other regions) no longer hold the franchise for London weekdays. The rot set in when Carlton took over and gradually them and Granada took over the rest of the ITV network until we had the dull uniformed barnd we have today.

i thought they were not the highest bidder. Richard branson and david frost were a consortium and bidded higher then carlton yet itv picked carlton and also branson tried to sue itv

Actually Thames were lsoers in the bid to hold the Monday to Friday franchise for London which would take effect in 1993. October 1991 saw them lose out to Carlton who were the highest bidders, thus winning the franchise.

Didnt Carlton Television (who bought Thames even though it should of been Richard Branson but thats another story) nick Thames's motto "A talent for Television"?
