Actually the president does have significant power; though the supreme leader is technically higher up on the chain of command the president has much more political flexibility and controls most of the non-religious happenings of the country. But you're right, the system is MUCH different than that ofAmerica

I know this is satire, but just for the record, Iran is not ruled by its president, like the system in the US.
Iran is ruled by the supreme religious leader, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, (ir. آیتالله سید علی حسینی خامنهای) and he is not elected by the people.
Even John McCain believed that Iran was ruled by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so don't feel bad if you also had that idea.
