a shitty attempt? selling 25 million alblums is far from shitty you lars loving pole smoker. megadeth didn't turn gay in 1990 when 11 year old girls where buying their cd's like metallica, big fucking deal. dave is 10x the player kirk is any day of the week. nobody in metal respects kirk, he's a horrible lead guitarist and not to mention one of the biggest pussies who ever walked the earth.

But the best guitar players in the world have always known their theory and have most likely been classically trained. Sure it's possible to make good songs without having all that training, but the problem is people use these guys as an excuse to never learn that shit. Dave, James, and Kirk are alright guitarists, but they're not anything exceptional because they've never taken the time to learn the instrument thoroughly. But they've done pretty well for themselves, so good on them.

I guess it all comes down to creative production. If you asked Hammett about theory, and scales and what not, he'll probably be able to tell you. Mustaine would just sit there and look like a douche. However, Mustaine with his little knowledge of the guitar has held is own, which is very impressive. Though I would like to see him move on from the pentatonic scale already.

exactly.......dave wasn't a rich bastard growing up like hammett. hammett was taught by satriani for hells sake, can you imagine the price of those guitar lessons? dave came from a broken home, was self taught, and big fucking deal if he never had to pay anyone thousands of dollars to teach him bullshit terminology.... he smokes the shit out of hammett any day of the week, all you hammett loving fuck faces

I don't know why so many people are criticizing him for not knowing exactly what pentatonic scales are...shit, most metal guitarists didn't learn guitar theory until far after they had done their best albums. James Hetfield has said before he didn't know shit about theory, just where to put your fingers. Point is, not every guitarist has studied the instrument theory like Alex Skolnick.
